For more than 5000 years India has been the home of great civilisations and empires. Throughout
India many relics and monuments of its history remain, a reminder of the important cultures that have shaped India. It is a vast land of great variety; throughout the subcontinent the people, the geography, the cultures, the climate, the flora and the fauna are different.
In the North are the spectacular mountain ranges of the Himalaya with the gardens and lakes of Kashmir, the desert kingdom of Ladakh, the rhododendron forests of Darjeeling and Sikkim and the hill stations with meadows of wild flowers and forests of pine.
On the Indo Gangetic Plain is the great Thar desert of Rajasthan, with it's palaces and forts, the historic cities of Delhi and Calcutta, the sacred city of Varanasi and the Taj Mahal.
To the South, the Deccan plateau rises to a lesser known India, a land of temples and ancient empires little influenced by foreign invaders, beautiful beaches, lush vegetation and paddy fields. The sandalwood city of Mysore, the spice centre of Cochin, the waterways of Kerala and the colourful temple towns of Tamil Nadu depict a rich cultural heritage.
In India there are many wildlife sanctuaries and parks where more than 350 species of mammals and 1200 species ofbirds can be observed in their natural habitat.
But perhaps the main attraction of India is the variety, the colour and life of it's people. The inhabitants of India comprise many ethnic and cultural groups, with different religions and languages, who celebrate the many festivals and fairs with an ancient tradition of music and worship.
Tours are designed to explore the history, the culture, the flora and fauna of India and to experience something of the lives of the Indian people.

DESTINATIONS IN INDIA
DELHI - The Old and the New
Delhi is really two distinct cities. Old Delhi pulses with the energy, colour, hustle and bustle of the thronged bazaars and is laced by a maze of narrow lanes which twist and turn between tall, leaning houses full of the sights, sounds and aromas of the Indian sub-continent.
In Old Delhi you will see the famous Red Fort, surrounded by shops, and bazaars (built by Emperor Shah Jehan - the builder of Taj Mahal), the Jama Masjid mosque, with its tapering minarets and wonderful marble domes, Chandni Chowk (Old Delhi's business nerve centre), the hurly-burly of everyday Indian life all around you and chattering voices,
As a complete contrast, New Delhi stands, in formal splendor, like a lone sentry guarding an outpost of a long-gone empire. It is a city of wide boulevards which offers everchanging perspectives of Lutyen's landscaped city. It is a city rich with formal parks and you'll see the magnificent Parliament Building and the Rashtrapati Bhawan (the official residence of the President of India in the 330 acres of land and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens), once awe-inspiring residence of the British Viceroys and now the Presidential Palace, the Raj Ghat (cremation site of Mahatama Gandhi), India Gate (a majestic 42 mt high arch, built as a memorial to the Indian Soldiers killed in World War 1), Qutab Minar (the 72.5 mt high tower dating back to 13th century and one of the greatest bequest of Islamic Culture), Humanyun's Tomb (built in the 16th century and architecturally the fore runner of the Taj Mahal has its Mughal Architecture at its graceftd best) and the Birla Mandir (a large Hindu Temple built in 1938).
Agra
The Taj Mahal truly is one of the wonders of the world, and you'll see it at its best - at sunset - just when the light, playing on the marble of the tomb and the reflections in the stillness of the waters.presents this incredible building in all its majesty and splendor. The Taj Mahal is a monument of love built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. For twenty two years 20,000 men labored day and night to build this masterpiece which has held the world awe struck ever since. Shah Jehan was imprisoned by his son in the magnificent fort at Agra. Here you'll see the art and crafting of the white marble that has made the area so famous, the Pearl Mosque, the halls of Public and Private Audience, and finally the tomb of Itmad-ud-daula built by the Empress Noorjehan in the memory of her father.
Jaipur
Jaipur is blessed with a wealth of wonders. Here you'll see the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) with its incredible facade of balconies and pierced screens, the Jantar Mantar (the Observ atory). and the Maharaja's City Palace. Jaipur is a city of pink , and you'll be enchanted by the light playing upon the buildings, creating shadows and highlighting every nuance of the architecture

Amber Fort
Amber, built by Man Singh, embodies the Rajput belief that the fort symbolises the strength of the King. Its commanding view, sheer walls and rock face, and the curved route that leads to the palaces within, all point to concern with security and defence. The fort is mirrored in Maota Lake which stands adjacent to the Dilaram Garden. The private apartments begun by Man Singh in the 17th century combine Hindu and Mughal styles and the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors), its walls covered with tiny mirrors , becomes a dazzling fantasy with the light of a single match. Visit the Jag Mandir or the Hall of Victory, glittering with mirrors, Jai Mahal and the Kali Temple.
Rajasthan has many other exotic and beautiful cities which we travel to such as Jodphur, Jaiselmer, Udaipur.

Calcutta
Calcutta, is a city of glaring contrasts: a curious blend of the old and the new, partly feudal, partly born out of growing urbanisation, partly undefinable.Being just about 300 years old, Calcutta hardly has many great historical monuments. Perhaps, the oldest remembered is the site where the Kalighat Temple now stands. Today Calcutta is the largest city in India with a population over 10 million and boasts India's first ever Metro rail system.l t is city that shocks on first impression but eventually the visitor falls in love with it. The sightseeing of the city includes a visit to the Victoria Memorial, Calcutta's most imposing and monumental dream in marble opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921 and often called the "Taj" of the British Raj, St Paul's Cathedral and the Indian Museum, the largest in India, with one of the best collections of Indian art.

If there is one culture in India that has been there from very early times it is the Dravidian civilisation. Also known as Mamallapuram, Mahabalipuram is located about 61 kms from the city of Chennai and is one of history's intriguing enigmas. It was a flourishing port of the Pallava rulers who chiselled in stone a fabulous museum of sculptures under the open sky. In this sea side town can be seen shrines and huge sculptures cut out of rocks more than 1200 years back. The rock carvings - depicting demons, gods and animals in battle as well as mythological episodes are truly poems in stone. There are five chariots known as the Pancha Pandava Rathas intricately cut out of rock in individual pieces. Close by is the world's largest and finest bas-relief 27 metres long and 9 metres wide depicting Arjuna's penance.
Tanjore
The Chola kings built the majority of Tanjore's (also known as Thanjavur) 93 temples. The enormous gopurams of the Brihadeeshwara Temple built in the 10th century by Raja Chola dominate Tanjore. The temple itself, between the Grand Anicut Canal and the old town, is surrounded by fortified walls and a moat. The old town, too, used to be similarly enclosed, but most of the walls have now disappeared. What remains are winding streets and alleys and the extensive ruins of the Palace of the Nayaks of Madurai. The Raja Museum and the Art gallery houses a large collection of Chola sculptures in bronze and granite. The Sarawati Mahal library contains over 40,000 rare books and palm leaf inscriptions.

The Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal is another temple built in the Indo-Saracanic style by the Nayaks. The main attraction here are the musical pillars and the pathway. The Koodal Alagar Temple, devoted to Vishnu is as old as Madurai itself.
